Hello All,
Welcome to the Town of Shawangunk Republican Committee website. The Town of Shawangunk is well known in Ulster County as being a Republican stronghold. In the 2008 hotly contested County election, one Democrat candidate stated to the newspapers that he attended a fireman’s barbecue in Shawangunk and that out of 300 people present only he and his wife were Democrats. We all know that is a gross exaggeration but it accurately reflects our reputation and how people perceive us.
I’ve heard some say it is only a matter of time before the Democrats take control of Shawangunk. To that I say, “Not on our watch!” While other Towns are fighting an uphill battle to regain their seats at the County and local levels, we are certainly working from a position of advantage. Shawangunk Republicans truly represent themselves as leaders and by working together we will continue with our success. I am very proud of the outstanding work our local Republican elected officials continue to provide. Cathy Terizzi, Ken Ronk from Shawangunk work diligently representing us in Kingston and are running for re-election with Town of Gardiner’s former Town Supervisor and retired State Trooper Jack Hayes. As a team, they will truly continue to maintain a strong and conservative presence at the County Legislature.
Our Town Board led by Supervisor John Valk Jr. continues to maintain our Town’s operations in a fiscally responsible manner while maintaining an outstanding level of essential services to our residents. Our Town Clerk Peg Tremper has been named New York State Town Clerk of the Year and is well known for her ongoing assistance to our friends and neighbors. Our Town Highway Superintendent Marty Hand is a true leader to our dedicated and knowledgeable highway crew and together they have improved the conditions of our roads. Our Town Board members, Bob Miller, Adrian Dewitt, Brian Amthor and Matt Watkins have worked with Supervisor Valk in holding the line on town taxes. Together they have worked on the planning, design and bidding for the construction of our new town hall that will be built on the site of the old one. Their foresight and fiscally conservative efforts have set the stage so that the project can be funded on an annual basis with payment on the bond being about the same as they have been putting aside over the years. This folks make this project a reality without raising taxes!
As we move forward to this year’s local elections, I urge everyone to support our Republican elected officials and please consider joining us at our monthly meetings held at the Walker Valley Schoolhouse on the 1st Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m.
